Faculty of Medicine

Faculty of Medicine's core mission is education and research in the fields of medicine, odontology, and health care. The Faculty has 12 departments and about 5 800 undergraduate, 550 postgraduate students and about 1 150 employees of which about half are teachers/researchers.

UMU – new recommended abbreviation

Umeå University currently has three official names: Umeå universitet in Swedish, Umeå University in English and Ubmejen universitiähta in Ume Sámi. In some contexts, an abbreviation is needed and for a long time, three versions have been in use: Umu, UMU and UmU. The University's Language Council now recommends that UMU is used if and when an abbreviation is needed.
