Umeå University is launching a new team that will support managers through situations regarding discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment and victimisation. STAR (Stödteam för trygg arbets- och studiemiljö) consists of HR strategists at the Human Resources Office.

Friday 13 January 2023 is the final deadline to report data in Ladok for 2022. This date applies for registration and results for education on first-, second- and third-cycle levels.

COVID-19 is no longer classed as a social infectious disease, but it is still important to follow the Public Health Agencys guidelines. 

In the work to make Umeå University a safer workplace, the Vice-Chancellor has decided on new procedures and support for managers when handling victimisation, harassment or sexual harassment. The new procedures provide clearer support for managers, and involve several clarifications and new routines.

Professor Jon Moen from the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science (EMG), has been appointed new programme leader for the Research & Leadership Programme (ReaL). Professor Jon Moen will initially lead the programme with senior consultant Matts Björklund, Human Resources Office.

On 14 March, the gradual return to the workplace will be complete, and this also marks the end of the groups established to handle the COVID-19 pandemic. Simultaneously, old news items, and invalid information will be removed from umu.se and Aurora, as well as signposting and other information produced during the pandemic.

The University Board has approved the reappointment of Professor Katrine Riklund as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and deputy to the Vice-Chancellor for the period 1 July 2022 until 30 June 2025.

The Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University has formally decided that the current recommendations for teaching and examination remains in place until 28 February. The gradual return to the workplace will commence on 15 February since the Government's assignment to government authorities regarding working from home is valid until 14 February. The return to the workplace is to be completed on 14 March.

On 3 February, the Swedish Government announced that most national restrictions will be lifted on 9 February. Employers and higher education institutions are urged to plan for a gradual return to the workplace. Nevertheless, the Government's assignment to government agencies to limit presence in university premises to workers who need to be present in the premises to complete their tasks still applies until 14 February. How Umeå University will approach this will be notified in the middle of week 7–13 February.

On 26 January, the Public Health Agency of Sweden announced that the current national COVID measures will be extended another two weeks, until 9 February. The Government has now announced that working from home for government employees, which staff at Umeå University count as, has been extended until 14 February.
