Wireless networks on campus, Wifi

    There are two available wireless networks for employees at Umeå University. You can use either eduroam or UmU wlan. Employees can also create guest accounts to give guests access to wifi.

    eduroam

    With eduroam, you can access wireless networks at colleges and universities around the world, no matter where you work or study. You log in with your eduroam identity from your home university and can then access wifi at all colleges, universities and places that are connected to eduroam. If you are travelling abroad, a map of where you can access eduroam is available on the official eduroam website.

    To use eduroam you need to install an electronic certificate on your computer, telephone or tablet. The electronic certificate proves that your electronic identity document is correct and valid. Once you have installed the electronic certificate, your device will automatically connect to eduroam wherever you are.

    Install eduroam on-site on campus

    When on campus, you can use the Umu wifi network to install eduroam for Windows, Mac, Iphone, Chromebook, or Android. Umu wifi is a wireless network which only can be used you to install eduroam. The network is only available on campus.

    If you do not have access to Umu wifi, use another operating system that mentioned above or have problems with the operating systems mentioned above, you can install eduroam manually.

    UmU wlan

    Employees and students can also use the wireless network UmU wlan (Netlogon). When connecting to the wireless network – choose UmU wlan. Then open a browser and log in with your Umu-id.

    Guest account

    Guests can log in with a temporary account via Netlogon. Employees can create guest accounts for wifi for your guests. You can create a guest account by using Administrationsverktyget (the Administration tool). Please note that you must be logged in to create a guest account. You log in with your Umu-id.

    In addition to the campus, Umeå University's wireless network can be accessed at the following locations:

    • Skellefteå campus (eduroam only)
    • Umeå Arts Campus
    • Police Education unit at the Umestan area
    • Umeå City Library including branches (eduroam only)
