Internationalisation

    Internationalisation is important for increasing and strengthening the quality of the university's education, research and administration.

    According to section 5 of the Higher Education Act (Högskolelagen 1992: 1434), the combined international activities at each institution for higher education must strengthen the quality of the institution's education and research.

    Universities and university colleges must, through their international activities, contribute nationally and globally to promoting sustainable development. This means that current and future generations are assured of a healthy and good environment, economic and social welfare and justice.

    These web pages are divided into two parts:

    • International Cooperation - information about the different international cooperations that exist today at the university.
    • Support for internationalisation - an appendix to Umeå University's policy for internationalisation with in-depth information linked to development areas within internationalisation.

    The Ministry of Education (Utbildningsdepartementet) was commissioned by the government to propose, among other things, new goals and a new national strategy for the internationalisation of universities and university colleges:

    "Why do researchers need to meet in international contexts?"

    Umeå University is a part of several international collaborative projects in which researchers discuss academic topics. Building relationships and exchanging experiences, knowledge and expertise strengthens academia and can result in new research topics. MIRAI 2.0 is an example of such a collaboration.
