Agreements for student and staff exchange

Umeå University has several agreements with foreign partner universities, most of them in Europe. The agreements primarily govern student and teacher exchanges. Below is a summary of the types of agreement in place at the university, as well as who has the authority to enter into agreements.

University-wide agreements

University-wide agreements are signed mainly with universities outside Europe. The decision to sign a university-wide agreement lies with the university management and the Strategic Planning Committee for Education (Utbildningsstrategiska rådet) at Umeå University.

Faculty agreements

Faculty agreements are entered into by the faculty board, etc. of the respective faculty.

Network agreements

Nordplus is a network for all higher education institutions in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The individual departments apply to participate in the network.

Department agreements

Most agreements at Umeå University are signed at department level under the Erasmus+ programme. There are a few agreements at department level that are signed with universities outside Europe.

Erasmus+ agreements

Umeå University's participation in the Erasmus+ programme is centrally coordinated at the International Office. Erasmus+ agreements are signed by the respective department. In few cases, faculty agreements are also signed for several departments within Erasmus+. According to procedures, a head of department or the international coordinator at the department or faculty can sign an Erasmus agreement. It therefore does not need to be signed by the Vice-Chancellor or the International Office.

Teachers and staff can apply for exchange to visit a partner university, company or organisation, as well as for taking language courses or courses related to your job. More information can be found at:
