Application workshop: Swedish research funding agencies and councils

Do you want help developing your research proposal ideas or receive feedback on already formulated applications to the Swedish research funding agencies and councils? In that case, you are most welcome to our application workshop.

Take the chance to get feedback on your novel research idea or an existing application via online meetings with us at the Research Support Office.

On Thursday afternoons, from 11 January to 30 May 2024 (except 28 March, 4 April and 9 May), the Research Support and Collaboration Office offers all researchers employed at Umeå University the opportunity to get help with developing their research proposal ideas and/or receive feedback on already formulated, but perhaps rejected, applications to the Swedish research funding agencies and councils, including e.g.:

  • Energimyndigheten – Swedish Energy Agency
  • Formas – Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning
  • Forte – Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare
  • Vetenskapsrådet – Swedish Research Council
  • Vinnova – Sweden's Innovation Agency

The application workshop is held digitally, either via Teams or Zoom.

What are the requirements for attending the application workshop?

The following conditions apply:
1. You must be employed at Umeå University.
2. Umeå University has to be the planned administrating organisation (medelsförvaltare) for the project.

What will happen at the application workshop?

During a 30-minute session with a research coordinator from the Research Support Office, you will receive advice and feedback on your research idea or an already formulated application.

Do I need to have a complete research proposal in order to attend?

No, it can be everything from a first draft to a previously submitted, but rejected, application. You will however have to send some sort of written documentation to us. Kindly state what kind of document it is that you wish to receive feedback on in the application form.

If you have yet to formulate your idea in writing, we will provide you with a template for a one-page-proposal once your booking is confirmed. Answering the questions in the template creates a short idea summary, which allows us to give you advice on, e.g., suitable funding bodies and calls.

How do I sign up?

Please fill in this form and choose which Thursday afternoon you would like to come (the English version is found by clicking the little globe in the right hand corner).

To give all researchers an equal chance to attend our application workshop, the principle is one booking per researcher.

NB! When you select a date, please keep in mind that you must send your application documents to us one week in advance of the requested session to ensure that we have sufficient time to prepare feedback.

What will happen after I have filled in the form?

We will email you a suggested time slot, further instructions regarding submission of documents, and a link for the digital meeting.

Am I guaranteed to get a time?

We will do our best to accommodate everyone who signs up for the application workshop. However, if it turns out that the demand is higher than the available time slots, we will prioritise researchers who have not previously attended our application workshop.

Who can I contact if I have further questions or if Thursday afternoons are impossible for me?

Please contact us at the Research Support Office via our shared shared mailbox:

See you during the spring!
