International exchange

Visiting a university och organization abroad is a great way to get new ideas and develop professionally.

Umeå University has a large number of exchange programmes, some of which are established at the respective department or faculty, some at central level. Through these exchange programmes, teachers and staff can visit a partner university, company or organisation, for example, as well as taking relevant language courses or courses related to your job.

For teachers a teacher exchange is an interesting way to develop your teaching skills, while at the same time strengthening your contacts.

T/A staff have the opportunity to travel to one of our partner universities in order to do one of the following, for example:

  • "Job shadow" a colleague at a foreign university, which means that you follow them to gain an insight into how they work and you have the opportunity to share experiences.
  • Participate in relevant seminars, workshops or courses, such as a "Staff training week" organised by a partner university.

Teachers can also go on staff training exchange within Erasmus+ if the tasks during the mobility are not teaching.

In the menu you can read more about the different exchange opportunities available to you as an employee at Umeå University.

Interested in skills development through an international exchange?

Contact your manager to discuss which options may be relevant to you before making an application.

At http://staffmobility.eu you can get tips on so-called Staff Weeks and opportunities for job shadowing. Remember that in most cases there must be an agreement between the university you want to go to and Umeå University for the host university to receive you and that the exchange must be relevant to you in regards to the job assignments that you perform at Umeå University.
