Self-testing and vaccination for international students and staff

24 August 2021

The routines for self-testing for COVID-19 have been simplified for students and staff who have no Swedish personal identity number, but a temporary identity number issued by the university. Region Västerbotten has also developed information aimed at international students and staff at Umeå University about testing, booking vaccination and finding a health centre that can be useful. Please help spread this inform to your international staff.

Getting tested using the university's temporary identity number

It is now possible for staff and students who do not have a Swedish personal identity number to identify themselves using the university's temporary identity number when getting tested for COVID-19. Previously, this group has been referred to a health centre, but they can now use the self-test centre on Gösta Skoglunds väg 8 in Umeå. A guide on how to do so is available on umu.se.

Please note that people who are neither students nor employees or scholarship holders paid by Umeå University may not be eligible for a temporary identity number.

Anyone who has a reserve number from the healthcare system or a coordination number from the Swedish Tax Office should use these instead.

Recommend your staff to get tested and stay at home if they have symptoms that could be caused by COVID-19. This also applies to those who have been vaccinated.

Getting tested upon arrival in Sweden

When entering Sweden from abroad, you are recommended to get tested on arrival and, for some, again on day five. Umeå University has developed information aimed at the autumn semester international student arrivals that can also be applied to visitors and staff who have access to a temporary identity number issued by the university and for certain guidelines regarding the recommendations for testing.

Information to distribute

Region Västerbotten has developed information aimed at international students and staff at Umeå University about testing, booking vaccination and finding a health centre that can be useful. Please download and distribute Region Västerbotten's information sheets if you think they can be useful.
Region Västerbotten has also updated their information on self-testing on 1177.se, but the information online does not mention the temporary identity number issued by the university as this only applies for Umeå University.
