In the pilot round of the pedagogical qualification system nine applicants were installed as Qualified or Excellent teachers. Since then, the model has been evaluated, revised and implemented. The application period is now open – from 13 November 2014 to 13 January 2015 it is possible to apply to the pedagogical qualification system.
In June 2014, the Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University decided to introduce a permanent model for pedagogical qualifications. The overall goal of the model is to contribute to a continual improvement in the quality of education by encouraging teachers to develop a high degree of pedagogical expertise and encouraging departments to create good conditions for pedagogical development.
The application period is 2014-11-13 – 2015-01-13.
Eligible applicants are teachers employed by Umeå University with at least 5 years of teaching experience at a higher education institution (equivalent to at least 2 years of full time teaching). Additionally, higher education teaching training/experience above what is required for employment as a teacher at Umeå University. The eligibility should be verified in a statement from the Head of Department.
Applications
- should consist of a CV, documented pedagogical merits and a statement from the Head of Department
- should be addressed to the Faculty Board, using the reference number below for each Faculty
- should be submitted to the Registry as an e-mail attachment, with the reference number in the subject line
- that are incomplete will not be processed further
- should be received by the Registry (registrator@umu.se) no later than 2015-01-13

The call is not limited to a certain number of applicants, but if needed the Pedagogical Qualification Board will divide the applications into groups that will be assessed in turns. Applicants from the pilot round, who were not installed, has a guaranteed place in the first assessment, provided that the application follows the guidelines above.
Questions regarding the application will be answered by the Dean's office at each Faculty. The Centre for Teaching and Learning (UPL) offers workshops and counselling for teachers who would like to document their pedagogical qualifications or assess pedagogical proficiency.
