Call: SSEESS Research Links 2014 (no later than March 31)

12 March 2014

The Swedish Secretariat for Environmental Earth System Sciences SSEESS offers project planning grants aiming to facilitate the formation of North-South research consortia within global environmental change (GEC) research.

As a part of its mandate SSEESS aims to strengthen the collaboration between the Swedish scientists and international programmes, initiatives and organizations within the GEC science. One of these organizations is the International Council for Science (ICSU). The focus of this grant is on Swedish collaboration with scientists within the networks of the ICSU Regional Offices in Africa, Asia and Pacific, and Latin America and Caribbean. The overall scope is to address the regional research priorities in the framework of a newly established international research initiative Future Earth.

Future Earth is a ten year environmental interdisciplinary research platform which includes cross-scale interactions with regional and local scales. Future Earth research platform is designed through a process of global scientific consultation. The initiative is the flagship of The Science and Technology Alliance for Global Sustainability including the International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Sciences Council (ISSC), UN organizations such as UNEP, UNESCO and UN University, and the International Groups of Funding Agencies (IGFA). Future Earth aims to deliver solution oriented science of highest quality, integrating different disciplines through a co-design and co-production process which includes scientists, civil society, governments, businesses and other stakeholders.

Future Earth will address key research challenges, expressed as a set of three broad and integrated research themes:

  • Dynamic Planet
  • Global Development
  • Transformations towards Sustainability
