On 11 May 2016, TedxUmeå takes place for the third time – at Väven. Would you like to spread and present an exciting idea that you are passionate about at TedxUmeå? Or would you like to recommend someone else's passion worth spreading? For this year's TEDx, we are looking for a number of international, national or local speakers who have positioned themselves at the forefront or their respective fields.
"It is important for Umeå University to encourage and strengthen its collaboration with the business community and the public sector. By participating in TEDx, we help spreading new knowledge and great ideas between people, organisations and companies. Umeå University is actively looking for new ways to increase the exchange of knowledge and TEDx is one of those ways," says Agneta Marell, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University.
TedxUmeå would like to fortify and strengthen Umeå's position as a progressive role model, and show that Umeå is composed of exciting, contradictory and committed people who really want to change the world and who really believe it is possible. Hence, it is natural for us to challenge old structures, pinpoint standards that are outdated, harmful or at least counterproductive – if there is a better road to take, we should jointly find it.
As far as theme goes for TedxUmeå 2016, it is all about challenging old ways and truths, questioning a wide range of areas – music, research, gender roles, creativity, life style, etc. TedxUmeå would like to present international, Swedish and local thinkers who are able to give the audience at least one "Oh, I see" per speech.
Would you like to present your passion at TedxUmeås? In total, 400 listeners will fill the Vävenscenen stage at Väven. Your speech will be filmed and published at the Tedx Youtube channel. Your speech can be anything from 2–18 minutes long. Deadline for your full presentation is 1 March.
Deadline for submitting your idea is 10 February using the online form.
