Call, funding for teaching sabbatical

The Strategic Board for Education (UN) announces funding for a sabbatical at a foreign University in 2021, with the aim of advancing education at first and second cycle level. Apply by April 15 latest.

Examples of activities: Teaching, traineeship or acquiring new pedagogical methods/tools.

Eligible to apply are tenured teachers of the Faculty, who are course coordinators or have equivalent pedagogical responsibilities, and have experience in pedagogical development. The application is made in consultation with the applicant's Head of Department.

The length of stay may vary in relation to the term of employment, the following guidelines apply:

  • At least 3 years of employment at UmU (with at least 30% GU) gives the right to apply for a 3 months sabbatical
  • At least 5 years of employment at UmU (with at least 30% GU) gives the right to apply for 3-6 months sabbatical

The Strategic Board for Education recommends allocation only in cases where there is a clear:

  • justification for stay
  • plan for the stay
  • description of how the individual, the programme/course and the Faculty's education at undergraduate and graduate level benefit from a sabbatical.

The department receives GU resources for the corresponding time, i.e. for the proportion of grants in the teacher salary funds, for the teachers concerned, during the sabbatical period, as well as funds to cover the travel cost of a return trip to the intended university.

The application must include:

1. Project plan signed by the applicant including:
a. the purpose of the stay
b. expected effect of how the individual, the programme/course and faculty benefit from the stay
c. the applicant's institutional affiliation and employment
2. The application must be supported by the Head of Department
3. Short CV, not exceeding an A4 page
4. Pedagogical portfolio in accordance with the University's regulations
5. Certifying documents from the host university confirming that the applicant can be accommodated and will have access to resources necessary for the implementation of the project plan.

The application can be written in English. A signed original copy should be sent digitally to UN.medfak@umu.se, mark the e-mail in the subject with "Resource for enabling sabbaticals for educational development". Deadline for applications is 15 April 2021.

A maximum 1 A4-page report including financial statements shall be submitted to UN by 2022-02-28. Furthermore, the applicant is expected to present the project on the Faculty's 'pedagogiska dag'.
