Learning Swedish

There are a few different ways of learning Swedish.

Swedish for academics
These courses are arranged by the Human Resources Office in collaboration with the Department of Language studies

The Swedish courses are suited to an academic context and available on three levels from a beginner level. The course fee is paid by the department and you need an approval from your supervisor or head of department to participate.

To take out these courses you need to have a Swedish id-number. They do not cost anything and it might be possible to have a flexible schedule. Contact them for more information.

Folkuniversitetet - private courses

Swedish courses are run every semester and normally contains between 1-10 sessions in the evenings. Since these are private you need to pay a course fee.

Extending your residence permit

Depending on how long you stay in Sweden, it may be necessary to renew your permit.

You can apply to extend your permit online. You should submit your application while your current permit is still valid. Note that, unlike first-time applications, there is no requirement that the permit validity period be longer than three months.

Travel abroad during the processing time

If you travel abroad before your new permit is granted, it may be difficult for you to enter Sweden. You may need to wait for a new decision outside Sweden.
