Information about the introductory programme

The introductory program consists of three parts and the content of the programme is target-oriented towards employees and scholarship holders.

The programme is available in the university's learning platform Canvas. To be able to log in and register for the programme, you need an Umu-id. A link to activate your Umu-id will be sent to you on the first day of employment. If you are a scholarship holder you need help from your departments administrator to get your Umu-id.

Part one: An online programme with videos and texts

The first part is a digital programme structured into a number of modules consisting of videos and explanatory texts. This part is a summary of some of the most important things you need to know as a new employee, if you want more in-depth information, you will find this on the staff web.

You must complete all parts of a module to continue to the next one. Completing all modules takes between two and three hours. You can choose the pace you want to complete the programme at, and pause at any time to continue later. When you have completed all modules, the registration to seminars and social event is open.

Part two: Welcome day for new staff

On 30th October 2024, a welcome day is being organised for all new staff and scholarship holders. The welcome day is an opportunity for you to learn more about the university´s vision, organisation, supporting activities and to quickly get into your work and the community.

The day begins with a warm welcome from the Vice-Chancellor, who will share more about the university's vision, mission, and core values. This will be followed by a presentation on university's idea - trends and traditions over 1000 years.

Throughout the day, presentations will be held in English covering topics such as career paths within academia, pedagogical qualifications, and academic writing. Simultaneously, presentations in Swedish will cover subjects such as the legal framework, decision-making structures at the university, and the digital workplace.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided during the day. During lunch, there will also be a Mini Expo where you'll have the opportunity to meet invited guests, such as occupational health care, the Umeå Postdoc Society (UPS), as well as representatives from the HR department and our local unions.

The day will conclude with a joint discussion on the importance of working in an international environment.

A warm welcome!
