27 May 2016

Hans Adolfsson, future Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University, is recommending three Deputy Vice-Chancellors for the new Management at Umeå University that will take over the reins on 1 July 2016.

"I feel pleased to present such a strong team as to manage Umeå University. The proposed Deputy Vice-Chancellors, together with myself and Katrin Åhlström Riklund, who I have recommended as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, display the experience and qualifications needed for us to further develop Umeå University," says Hans Adolfsson.

As previously announced, Katrine Åhlström Riklund, Professor in Diagnostic Radiology, will become new Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University for the upcoming six-year term. The final decision will be made by the University Board at their next session on 2 June. Deputy Vice-Chancellors with certain responsibilities

After taking on office on 1 July 2016, Vice-Chancellor Hans Adolfsson is planning on appointing three Deputy Vice-Chancellors with certain areas of responsibility:

Dieter Müller, Professor in Human Geography, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, will become Deputy Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for research and third-cycle courses (research programme) within social sciences and the arts.

Heidi Hansson, Professor in English Literature at the Department of Language Studies, will become Deputy Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for internationalisation and equal opportunities.

Collaboration will be included in the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and all Deputy Vice-Chancellors responsibilities within their respective fields.

Agneta Marell, Professor in Business Administration, who is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor of innovation and collaboration, will be extended until 31 October 2016 to further strengthen the management for a transitional period.

Marianne Sommarin, Professor in Plant Biochemistry and at present Deputy Vice-Chancellor of research and education on third-cycle level, will be appointed as Vice-Chancellor counsellor with particular responsibility for research infrastructure.

The new University Management

Apart from the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the new University Management will consist of University Director Caroline Sjöberg and Deputy University Director Per Ragnarsson.
