The current term of office for the members of the Faculty Boards terminates on 30 June 2017. The Vice-Chancellor has now decided upon the nominated deans, pro deans and external members of the respective faculty boards at the faculties of Social Sciences and Medicine, for the period 1 July 2017 until 30 June 2021.
The appointment is regulated in The rule of procedure for Umeå University and The Rule of procedure for the election and appointment of members of the Faculty Boards – including dean and pro dean (documents available in Swedish).
The Election Committee at each faculty has been assigned to nominate one woman and one man, chosen among the permanently employed professors or senior lecturers at the faculty, to the posts as chair (dean) and vice chair (pro dean) of the Faculty Board. It is also the role of the Election Committee to nominate one or two individuals as external members.
At the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Patrik Danielsson has been appointed Dean, and Professor Marie Bixo has been appointed Pro Dean. Patrik Danielsson has held the position of Pro Dean since 1 July 2014. Annika Nordin Johansson, Västerbotten County Council, has been appointed external member.
At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Ruth Mannelqvist has been appointed Dean, and Professor Gregory Neely has been appointed Pro Dean. Cynthia Kite, Polarbröd AB, has been appointed external member.
The announcements of deans and pro deans for the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science and Technology are expected in the middle of May.
