Fitness reimbursement starting soon

30 August 2018

From 1 September 2018, employees at Umeå University can apply for fitness reimbursement. Applications are made through Pass.

Earlier this year, the decision to introduce a fitness reimbursement scheme was made. This reimbursement is given for a number of activities found on the Swedish Tax Agency's list of tax free health and fitness benefits (list in Swedish). The reimbursement is offered from 1 September for a maximum of SEK 150/month – or SEK 1,800/year.

"This means that if you buy or have bought an annual fitness card, you can only be granted the 2018 reimbursement of SEK 600 up until the New Year. To receive the reimbursement sum of SEK 1,800 for 2019, you need to file another application in Pass in January. To receive the entire sum, you need to have a permanent position at the University or be contracted for the entire year, otherwise you will receive SEK 150 per month of employment," says Ann-Christin Edlund at the Office for Human Resources.

You need to scan you receipt and attach it in your application in Pass. You also need to submit your original receipt and a printed form from Pass to your salary administrator before your reimbursement can be paid out. The easiest solution, suggests Ann-Christin Edlund, would be to pay for your fitness activity by direct debit (autogiro). In that case, you would get your reimbursement in arrears, in a maximum of two instalments.

"10 December is an important date to remember – by then, the salary administration should have received your original receipt or bank statement if you've paid by autogiro to receive your fitness reimbursement before the New Year. Receipts submitted after this date will be registered for the upcoming year," says Ann-Christin Edlund.

Up until 31 August 2018, members of staff can also sign up for a fitness card at USM according to the current agreement.
