New instructions for data management coming up

17 January 2019

Umeå University will draft an institution-wide data management plan, a formal document describing how data should be handled during and after a research project.

In 2017, the Swedish Research Council was assigned with the task to coordinate the national efforts to introduce open access to research data. From spring 2019, researchers who are granted funds from the Swedish Research Council will need a plan for how to handle research data generated within a research project.

Several international research funding bodies also require that the initial application contains a data management plan.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Katrine Riklund has assigned the Umeå University Library with the task to conduct an analysis of the international context and look at templates for existing data management plans. Thereafter, the Library, together with relevant entities, will make a proposal for an institution-wide data management plan and a policy for the management of research data at Umeå University.

The proposal for an institution-wide data management plan will be presented to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor no later than 29 March 2019 and the policy for the management of research data no later than 17 May 2019. The objective is for the Vice-Chancellor to approve the plan and policy in June.
