Don’t miss out on reimbursement when you report sick leave

5 November 2020

If you fall ill and report sick leave in PASS, you are currently entitled to an 804 SEK reimbursement for the qualifying deduction. Please take note that you need to apply to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) to claim the reimbursement.

In normal times, sick pay for Swedish employees is reduced at the beginning of a sick period. This is called a qualifying deduction.

On 11 March the Swedish government decided to reimburse all private and public employees for this deduction, in order to suppress and limit the spread of Coronavirus in the workplace and in society.

This temporary rule is applied until 31 december 2020. Employees are not being reimbursed for the actual sum deducted from their pay checks, instead all employees receive a standard amount of 804 SEK before tax.

How to apply for the reimbursement

If you fall ill you report sick leave in PASS as usual. To apply for your reimbursement you need to apply by logging in to My Pages at the Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) website. The reimbursement is paid for one day of a period of sick leave.

The application page is in Swedish and you need a Bank ID  in order to apply.

How to apply retroactively

If you have had periods of sick leave from 13 March 2020 onward that you have not yet applied to be reimbursed for, you can still make a retroactive application.

Please note that the standard amount of the reimbursement was 700 SEK from 11 March to 31 May 2020. This amount also applies retroactively.

If you need to check your periods of sick leave from 13 March 2020 until now, you can follow these steps:

  • log in to PASS
  • choose "Services" in the left hand menu
  • click "Reports"
  • pick the date March 11 2020 in the calendar, or type "200311" in the input field
  • click "Get"
  • open the list created in either Excel or PDF format.
