Hoping for clear directives to avoid heavy workload in preparation for autumn

"I'm well aware that planning for two scenarios cause a heavy workload for teaching staff," says Vice-Chancellor Hans Adolfsson.

"As time passes and we're approaching summer, we will hopefully be given clear instructions from the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the Swedish Government, which can set us up in a better way for this autumn semester."

70 per cent of all students at Umeå University are campus-based students, and the message we are sending is to still plan for studies on campus from 31 August.

Since the University switched to remote teaching on 18 March, the transitions required have been extensive.
"We've learnt a lot in a very short time, and in my mind, we will be able to combine digital and analogue in a much better way even after the crisis."

Another positive result is the reduction in business travel. Hans Adolfsson suggests that many travels, not least by the management, are likely to be replaced with virtual meetings in the future.
