"An important aspect of teachers' continuing professional development, is to use defined time to really focus on the pedagogical mission. This can be done, for example, if you go to a conference focusing on higher education in relevant content areas. It can also be valuable to take part in international exchanges with universities outside of Sweden, or through collaboration with companies or organizations where our students can be employed after their exam" says Karolina Broman, vice dean and chair of the Education committee.

The call for conference grants is aimed at faculty staff teaching a course or programme. Grants can be used to further their education, be inspired and network by attending a conference. The aim is for participation to enhance education. A total of SEK 461,000 has been allocated and will be announced in two rounds in 2023, the first with a deadline for applications on 13 January.

At the same time, the Education Committee is calling for so-called internationalisation and collaboration checks, totalling SEK 593,000 in 2023. This call will also be made in two rounds.

The internationalisation checks will be used to strengthen and inspire education, for example by carrying out a teacher exchange, developing courses or creating exchange agreements with foreign higher education institutions.

"Extended collaboration valuable"

The collaboration checks enable teaching staff to spend a limited period of time at an external workplace, outside the higher education sector. The aim is for the teacher to gain knowledge and experience of benefit to education. The stay should be at a workplace where the faculty's students could find employment after graduation.

"It would be valuable to develop an extended collaboration with external organisations where our students can be employed after their exam" says Karolina Broman. "One way to make university programmes even more relevant to students, is a closer collaboration with industry and other employers, and therefore our teachers could benefit from visits in these environments."
