Dispose of hazardous chemicals without charge

You can hand in hazardous chemicals free of charge during the period 21 October - 11 November.

The campaign aims to create a safe work environment and to facilitate the upcoming inventory of chemicals and gases in KLARA.

A campaign for the disposal of hazardous chemicals is launched again. Umeå University units at Campus Umeå, University Hospital and the Art Campus are offered the possibility to hand in hazardous chemicals free of charge during the period 21 October – 11 November. At Campus Umeå also gas cylinders can be disposed. The campaign aims to create a safe work environment and to facilitate the upcoming inventory of chemicals and gases in KLARA, which must be done before the end of this year.

Instructions 

Campus Umeå

Campus Umeå operations are offered the possibility of disposing hazardous chemicals to the Hazardous Waste Building (Säkerhetshuset) free of charge on Fridays at 08:00–10:00.

  • When you hand in chemicals, the following form must be filled in: Declaration of hazardous chemical waste. Please state "Chemfree 2022" as reference under Org.unit/Ref.code on the form to avoid being charged.
  • The chemicals you hand in must be packed carefully.
  • Leave your gas cylinders at The Chemical Store Fridays 13.00-15.00.

University Hospital

Operations at the University Hospital order collection of chemical waste via Interntransport på NUS. Invoices for disposal of chemical waste during the period 21 October-11 November are post-invoiced to the Building Office.

Umeå Arts campus

The Art campus departments are offered the possibility of disposing hazardous chemicals free of charge once during the campaign period. Date and time will be announced later.

  • When you hand in chemicals, the following form must be filled Declaration of hazardous chemical waste. Please state "Chemfree 2022" as reference under Org.unit/Ref.code on the form to avoid being charged.
  • The chemicals you hand in must be packed carefully.

Disposal of explosive chemicals

Please note that the disposal of explosive chemicals must be pre-announced to Prezero, please contact Magnus Andersson on magnus.andersson@prezero.com or +46 72-232 11 87. Picric acid, peroxides and TNT are examples of things that should be pre-notified.
