Webinar - Sustainability in an Era of Climate Change

14 September 2022

On Thursday 22 September, Carina Keskitalo, Professor in Political Science at the Department of Geography, Umeå University, will participate in a webinar focusing on sustainability. The webinar is part of MIRAI, a collaborative project between Swedish and Japanese universities. It is open to anyone interested at Umeå University and no pre-registration is required.

Carina Keskitalo will speak about "Climate change adaptation as an overarching issue". Since the council was appointed in 2018, she has been the vice-chair of the Swedish National Expert Council for Climate Adaptation. Her speech will be based on the report that the council presented in February.

"What does climate adaptation actually mean and how do we need to organise at the state level to deal with climate adaptation issues. These are some of the questions I will address," says Carina Keskitalo.

The report is about Sweden's climate adaptations, but as we all know, climate issues are global and there are many points of intersection that are also relevant in general or in a comparative perspective.

Professor Guangwei Huang, Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Sophia University, will also be participating in the webinar. Her talk is about "Flood risk management under changing environment and social structure".

MIRAI 2.0 is a project to strengthen academic cooperation in education, research and innovation between Swedish and Japanese universities. MIRAI focuses, besides sustainability, on ageing, artificial intelligence, materials science, innovation and entrepreneurship.
