Aggressive man still detained – “We are staying updated.”

At the start of January, a man was taken into police custody and later detained on suspicion of assault and unlawful threat committed on Campus Umeå. The District Court announced on 1 February that his detention has been extended. A judgement is to be expected on 10 February.

On 9 February, a man was taken into police custody on Campus Umeå after acts of violence against a person working at one of the contracted services on campus. On 12 January, the man was detained on suspicion of assault and unlawful threat. The man has previously been served three months in prison convicted of unlawful threat, two cases of insult and a case of agitation against an ethnic or national group.

On 1 February, a detention hearing was held at the District Court of Umeå which concluded that the man will remain in detention until the judgement, which is to be expected on 10 February.

The University Management and the university security team at Umeå University are making sure they are updated on the case.

"We are anxious to ensure that our campuses remain safe places for everyone using them. And at the same time, it is important that our campuses are open and accessible. This always applies. In this specific case, we are staying updated on the course of events and adapt our measures accordingly," says Per Ragnarsson, Deputy University Director of Umeå University.
