Scientific dishonesty

Scientific dishonesty refers to the fabrication, falsification, plagiarism or misrepresentation of scientific data and results. All suspected scientific dishonesty will be investigated.

If the university becomes aware of suspected dishonesty in research, artistic development work or other development work at the university, these suspicions will be investigated.

In order to ensure that investigations into scientific dishonesty are handled impartially and objectively, Umeå University works together with Linköping University. If there is an investigation into dishonesty at one university, the other university nominates a person to represent it on the investigation team.

In 2004, the Vice-Chancellor decided on the rules for investigating such suspicions. The rules describe who can make a report and how the matter should be investigated, as well as the possible consequences of the investigation.
