Multifunction cards are found at a large number of higher education institutions around the world. Here you can find information about the multifunction card at Umeå University, the UmU card.
What is the UmU card?
It is a multifunction card which replaces many of the cards employees and students currently receive at the university. Currently the card has the following functions:
- Access card (not for NUS premises).
- Borrowing card for University library.
- Copying and printing card, with internal invoicing for employees and a cashless payment system for students.
How can I get the UmU card?
You receive an e-mail about how to apply for the UmU card. The e-mail will contain detailed information and a link to the account where you should, among other things, upload your photo.

Your UmU card works as a borrowing card at Umeå University library.
Entry to the University's premises
The UmU card will replace your previous access card. The authorisation is controlled by the unit to which you belong. If you require greater authorisation, please contact the Service centre or House services.
You can see the validity period of the card on the front of the card. The card's validity period is updated every three years. There are update printers on campus which you can use to add a new validity period to your card.
Printing, copying and scanning
You can use your UmU card to identify yourself at the printer when you want to print, copy or scan. You can print from the University computers or from your computer and collect your printed pages from any printer within the University.
Your UmU card is linked to the department, unit or equivalent where you are employed. The cost of your printed pages and copies will be invoiced there.
