Intended learning outcomes:
On completion of the day, the participant:
- Is aware of the most important intellectual property rights
- Has basic knowledge of how to obtain, maintain and enforce intellectual property rights (Patent, Design, Copyright, Trademark)
- Is aware of how intellectual property rights may be utilized as assets
- Is aware of how intellectual property rights are related to research utilization

Seminar 1: Basic knowledge about Intellectual Property Rights
Presenter: PRV
This seminar will give you an introduction to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and how different aspects of IPR are relevant to academic research and entrepreneurs. There will also be an overview of the international systems relevant to Patents, Trademarks, Copyright and Industrial design and a discussion on how a product can be protected by various types of IPR.
Seminar 2: How to find useful information from patents within your research area
Presenter: PRV
This seminar will give you knowledge about patent information, why using patent information is relevant for your research and how to search and use patent information. You will learn which databases are available to you.
Seminar 3: Utilization/Commercialization of research results
Presenter: Innovation office
The seminar will give an overview of different aspects of how utilization/commercialization of research results and assets within a research project can be undertaken. Information about support for utilization and the innovation process will also be given by the Innovation office.
Course literature:
Will be handed out at the first seminar and consists of selected patents related to the case studies presented.
