This is a week with events all over Sweden organised through the SLS KUF in order to raise awareness about Global Health.

ZikaPLAN: Being a Global Health Research Consortium

ZikaPLAN (Zika Preparedness Latin American Network) brings together 25 leading research and public health organizations in Latin America, North America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, taking a comprehensive approach to tackle the Zika virus disease and to prepare for beyond Zika by building a sustainable Latin-American Emerging Infectious Diseases Preparedness and Response capacity.
The project has completed three successful years of its operations & is now in its final year. This EU H2020 funded, 11.5 million Euros grant is coordinated by the Department of Epidemiology & Global Health of Umeå University.

Madagascar - Stories From the Medical Field

Madagascar is perhaps most known abroad for its rain forests and animal life, but what do you know about the Malagasy health and health care system?
Despite having considerable natural resources, Madagascar has among the highest poverty rates in the world. According to the WHO, the probability of dying under 5 years of age in Madagascar is 54 per 1000 live births. Diseases such as plague and leprosy are still present in the country today. In 2018-2019, a major outbreak in Measles draw international attention to the situation and has lead to action in vaccination programs.
In May 2019, Hanna Jerndal took part of a course in Tropical Medicine and Travel Medicine in Madagascar, arranged by the Swedish organisation Reserådet. Through photos, statistics and stories from the field, Hanna will share her experiences and insights from the trip.
