Research funding agencies as well as universities increasingly seek to understand and assess how research translates into societal impact. Attempts to promote and measure knowledge exchange between academia and society as well as to capture the impact of research has increased. Most indicators focus on bibliometric and economic outputs which are relatively easy to measure, however it is more difficult to answer the broader societal benefits.

Invited speaker: David Budtz Pedersen
Professor of Science Communication and Impact Studies Department of Communication & Psychology, Aalborg University Copenhagen Head of Research for Humanomics Research Centre.

Professor Budtz Pedersen's research focuses on science communication, impact assessment, science and higher education policy. He is Principal Investigator of several large-scale research projects on research assessment including 'Responsible Impact', 'Open Research Analytics' and 'Mapping the Public Value of Humanities'.

Professor Budtz Pedersen is the Chair of the EU Commission COST Expert Group on Science Communication. Alongside his research, David has an international public presence with outreach activities in science policy, speaking frequently on the topics of Open Science, Responsible Impact Assessment and Evidence-Informed Policy- Making.

In 2012, he supported the Danish Presidency of the European Union in the area of Responsible Research and Innovation, co-organizing the conference "Science in Dialogue". In 2019, he was appointed member of the Danish Governments' Commission on Rewards and Reputation in Research.

The workshop will give an overview of the topic as well as hands-on exercises on how to apply it.
