Think – a magazine about the world in year 2065

4 September 2015

Now a new edition of Umeå University's magazine Think is here, this time spanning over an entire century. With the aim on 2065, several top-class scientist share their views about the future challenges in society. This edition also offers a historic flashback given that the university turns 50 this year.

Climate threats, an ageing population, antibiotic resistance and an increase in religious conflicts – they are only a few of the tough challenges awaiting the world over the next decades. In the new edition of Think on the theme of "2065 – What the Future Holds", ten of the university's prominent researchers give their views on these threats and their potential solutions.

In this edition, Emmanuelle Charpentier and her pioneering research about the "gene scissors" CRISPR-Cas9 is presented, and Lena Berggren shares what attracted her to study Fascism and Nazism. We also find out how the dream about an academy in the woods becomes reality on 17 September 1965 in order for us to celebrate as Umeå University fifty years later.
