Terra replaced by more efficient service

6 October 2015

The file sharing service Terra will be phased out on 16 November. Before then, it is important for all users to move their files. As replacement, the cheaper and more modern service Min Filyta will be offered.

Anja Axelsson at ITS provides more information about the new service and how to transfer you documents from Terra:

Why should I use Min Filyta?

The service Min Filyta provides safe storage space for your working documents in ITS data centres instead of locally on your computer. You can also store working documents in other formats than the usual Office file formats as well as media files or other types of documents that are not possible to store in other services offered at Umeå University. Furthermore:

• You have access regardless of where you are. Outside of campus, the additional service VPN is required for safe access.
• Backup is performed once per day.
• You have the possibility of recovering deleted information for up to 60 days after deletion.

Can I use Min Filyta for sharing working documents?

If you need to collaborate with others outside of your department or office, I recommend you to use the collaboration sites offered via the intranet Aurora.

I use Terra today, what do I need to do?

Since the file sharing service Terra is being phased out you need to move your files no later than 15 November 2015. After this day, Terra will be shut down and you will no longer have access to the files stored in this service. ITS takes no responsibility for any files remaining in Terra after 15 November.

Information on how to move files from Terra to Min Filyta is available in the Kunskapsdatabas under the category Min filyta (in Swedish). For information in English and help, please contact ITS Servicedesk.

How can I order Min Filyta?

Min Filyta is available in two versions: Min Filyta for personal and private use, and a Gemensam Filyta for common files for your department or office. To order the service you need to talk to your Head of Department or equivalent person responsible for IT at your department or office who will make the order on your behalf.
