NOK 190 million for Nordic cooperation on sustainable development

15 March 2024

The Nordic countries have teamed up with the US and Canada to launch a historically large call for proposals with a total budget of NOK 190 million. The money will support research collaborations in the Arctic region that can provide groundbreaking new knowledge on how to ensure sustainable development in the region.

It is possible to apply for NOK 18–24 million for projects lasting 3–4 years. A total of 7–10 projects may receive funding.

The call does not prioritise any specific themes, but NordForsk lists "security, natural resources and societal changes" as keywords to inspire research ideas.

Participants in the project must come from universities or research institutes in at least three Nordic countries. The project must be interdisciplinary and involve at least two of these three areas:

  • Life sciences
  • Physical sciences and engineering
  • Social sciences and humanities

It is also important to include an indigenous perspective and that the project has the potential to make an impact on society.

This is a two-step application process. Submit your pre-proposal by June 4.
