Region Västerbotten's Spearhead 2025–2027

29 March 2024

Region Västerbotten allocates research funds to 15 spearhead projects for the years 2025–2027, each of which is allocated SEK 3 million spread over three years. The deadline for applications is Monday, May 27.

The region invests in cutting-edge research with the aim of strengthening excellent clinical research, in order to secure Västerbotten's and the Northern healthcare region's access to highly specialized care, and thereby preserve university healthcare at Norrland's university hospital.
The cutting-edge funds must be allocated to high-quality projects, which after a three-year investment can be further developed to become, or continue to be, nationally and internationally competitive.
Cutting-edge projects are run by well-established researchers with research groups capable of training future research leaders and generational changes without reduced scientific production, as well as junior researchers with good conditions for establishing independent and long-term viable research groups.

Applicants must be permanently employed (at least extensive half-time) within the Västerbotten Region or as a teacher at Umeå University's Faculty of Medicine, where the employment in some form has a clinical connection that entails duty within the Västerbotten Region with an average of at least 6.5 hours/week.
Doctors with ongoing AT (public service) or BT (basic service) within Region Västerbotten are also eligible to apply. Applicants must also have completed a doctorate and be a project manager for the applied project.
