One-year research grant in neuroscience

    The application for a 1-year research grant is invited by the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University, within the framework of the Swedish government's strategic investment in research. This call is based on funding granted to Umeå University as a partner in "The Strategic Research Program in Neuroscience" (StratNeuro) at Karolinska Institutet (KI).

    Type of grant:
    A grant of SEK 600,000 will be funded in 2024. New collaboration with KI or KTH researchers will be seen as a plus, but is not a prerequisite for receiving funding.

    Who can apply:
    Applications will be considered from researchers with a doctoral degree, who are employed at Umeå University in 2024, and who are actively conducting research in basic or clinical neuroscience or neurobiology. Members of the Steering Committee are not eligible to apply. Researchers who have been awarded funding from StratNeuro UmU in the last 3 years cannot apply.

    Time window for applications: 15 April–31 May 2024

    Applications will be assessed by 2 reviewers outside UmU, one of which is outside Sweden. Equal weight will be given to novelty value, significance, scientific rigour and the applicant's qualifications. A new collaboration with KI/KTH will be a plus.
    Outcome this autumn, no later than November 2024, so that money will be available by the end of the year.

    • Main applicant
    • Main partners (at KI/KTH and elsewhere)
    • Relation to the overall research theme of neuroscience identified as strategic by StratNeuro
    • List of current funding and budget for the proposed project
    • Short CV (max 2 pages A4), list of publications from the last 10 years (published in 2014 or later), list of the 5 most important publications regardless of date
    • Project description (max. 4 pages A4, including references and images)
    • Purpose of the project
    • Brief background
    • Research programme
    • Statement of innovative and significant contributions to the area
