Become a future research leader

25 April 2024

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) announces the ninth round of its flagship programme Future Research Leaders. The programme develops young academics who have the potential to become research leaders.

Every three years, selected young researchers are given the opportunity to participate in SSF's programme, which provides participants with SEK 15 million over a five-year period. During this time, participants will not only build their own research group, but also go through a solid leadership training programme.

SSF is looking for people who have the potential to become important figures both within and outside academia. Applicants are evaluated on, among other things

  • scientific and pedagogical standards
  • leadership qualities
  • willingness to translate scientific results into practical benefits
  • experience in international co-operation.

To be eligible for this grant, you must have obtained your doctoral degree between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2020 (with the possibility of exceptions for, for example, parental leave or sick leave) and be conducting research in science, technology or medicine. During the grant period, you must have a full-time position at a Swedish university or research institute.

Do you want to take the chance?

The deadline for applications is 26 August. Decisions will be made in June 2025 and projects may start in August 2025 at the earliest.

You can find the full text of the call and a link to the application portal on SSF's website.
