Minute of silence after the terrorist attacks around the world

16 November 2015

Umeå University invites everyone to observe a minute of silence on account of the terrorist attacks in for instance Paris and Beirut. A minute of silence will be held at several universities in Sweden on Monday 16 November at 12:00. The EU also holds a minute of silence at 12:00 in which the Swedish government and government office will participate.

The minute of silence is held in commemoration of the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris among other places, but also in protest against the increased threats and attacks taking place on a daily basis around the globe, and which threaten the core values of our society. Core values that our universities are based upon and which we have an obligation to keep informing about: freedom of thought, freedom of expression, openness, democracy and tolerance.
