Email gets a new spam filter

16 May 2023

The spam filter in the email is there to keep your inbox as free from spam and phishing as possible. On Monday, 22 May, changes will be made to the University's spam filter. The spam filter will have a new look and will work slightly differently.

These changes are part of the move of our email to Microsoft 365. The spam filter is enabled for everyone with an .umu address and is there to reduce the amount of spam that comes our way.

This is how the spam filter works:

  • You will receive a notification when an email is caught in the spam filter and can then review the email and choose to let it through or to block the sender. In the new spam filter, the notification message looks different than before and comes from the address noreply@umu.se.
  • Instruction on how to block or release emails that are stuck in the spam filter
  • With the new spam filter, the senders you previously blocked or marked as safe are reset.
