Fredrik Almqvist, Klara Johansson, Elza Dunkels and Markus Hällgren will be representing Umeå University at the fourth TEDxUmeå event so far. TEDxUmeå is an important and open-minded stage for ideas worth spreading from around the world. The event is encourages us to challenge the world and making people think and rethink, understand and gain new perspectives.
"TED and TEDxUmeå has always been an important conference, but never before has this format been quite as important as this year, when facts, science and truths are being questioned from all directions," says Mikael Nygren, licensee for TEDxUmeå.
The TEDxUmeå event offers an interesting afternoon and evening experience spanning across all areas – music, research, sex role debate, creativity, life style, and what not. It presents international, national and local thinkers who provide the audience with an abundance of new thoughts and ideas.
Umeå University has co-organised the event ever since it saw daylight four years ago. Together with Umeå municipality, Region Västerbotten, Ledarskapscentrum, Nicke&Nico and Blå Huset, the idea is to offer an arena for knowledge exchange, reflection and inspiration where committed people who really aspire to change the world – and are confident that it is possible – can meet and share ideas.
The event allows for 400 participants and will be held at Vävenscenen in Umeå, just like last year. The talks will also be filmed and published on the TED YouTube channel.

TED is a nonprofit organisation devoted and passionate about ideas. The slogan "Ideas Worth Spreading" is shared by many local initiatives and organisations that create their own TEDx events. Also TEDxUmeå wants to give ideas the chance to spread and at the same time offer visitors an abundance of new aha experiences – in just one day. Beginning with last year, TEDxUmeå is a much greater event than two years ago thanks to a so-called +100 licence that allows for a total of 400 participants to join the event at Väven.

By purchasing five or more tickets, you automatically become a member of the network Friends of TEDxUmeå. Names of organisations will be broadcasted on the TEDx web page and in other channels as well as during the event, and Friends are automatically invited to take part in improving upcoming TEDxUmeå events throughout the year.
