Wendsday February 21 at 1 pm to 3 pm, at The Humanities Building, HC212

'Chaoshan heritage – between the global and the local' – from the 19th/20th century treaty port photography to 21st century glocal chaosan digital archives

This seminar concerns the development of repositories and databases of visual sources of the Chaoshan Culture in North-Eastern Guangdong Province, China. It starts with the G. Warren Swire collection and the R.F.C. Hedgeland collection of still photography (part of The Chinese Maritime Customs Collection).

It then moves on to the Shantou University Library Chaoshan Special Collections Digital Archive, focusing on The Shantou Treaty Port Multi-Media Digital Resource Archive (Still Photography Archive, Oral History Resources, Film+ Video Resources) which is a joint research project between the Center for Global Studies (CGS) and the Shantou University Library, within the Digital Humanities field.
