New Code of rules and procedures for the disposal of radioactive waste

26 September 2019

The Umeå University Code of rules and procedures for the disposal of radioactive waste has been revised due to an update in the directions from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has updated its directions as a result of the publication of a number of new guidelines from EU and international radiation safety organisations. Consequently, Umeå University has revised its Code of rules and procedures for the disposal of radioactive waste.

Most changes are minimal. An example of a more influential revision is the addition of a table of how much radioactive waste may be burnt/disposed of and how this waste should be treated and documented. The code of rules and procedures has also been revised based upon comments that the local council, Region Västerbotten, has shared regarding labelling and packaging of waste that they receive from Umeå University.
