Vice-Chancellor orders new report on sexual harassment at Umeå University

22 December 2021

The University management is funding an extended analysis of a National study done by the National Secretary for Gender Research, commissioned by the Collaboration and Research Programme on Sexual Harassment and Gender-Based Vulnerability. Data was collected this spring on the prevalence, extent and consequences of sexual harassment in academia in Sweden. The new analysis will be conducted by Britt-Inger Keisu at UCGS and will focus on data collected at Umeå University.

The aim of this study is to describe the gender-specific incidence of sexual harassment, bullying, perceived support in relation to work/study problems and health among both University employees and students. The report will also be complemented by an comparative analysis of the results of the national survey conducted in 2006.

Britt-Inger Keisu and her colleagues also hope to gain access to primary data from the University employee study. If allowed, the team will also be able to analyse the links between health and sexual harassment, abuse and gender-based vulnerability.

The UCGS assignment also includes organizing a theme day for students and staff titled "Sexual Harassment - in Theory and Practice" in late spring 2022.
