Additional Associate Dean appointed

15 October 2021

The Dean has appointed Anders Behndig, professor, senior consultant physician, and former head of the Department of Clinical Sciences, as associate dean for liaison in matters of clinical research at the Faculty of Medicine, and as part of the Faculty Leadership.

The "portfolio" that during the previous term was under the purview of Deputy Dean, namely liaison in research and education with the regions responsible for health care, will during this term be divided between two associate deans.

Associate professor Magnus Hultin started July 1 as associate dean for liaison in matters of clinical education, and now professor Anders Behndig is appointed as associate dean for liaison in matters of clinical research, initially until June 30, 2023. Anders has previously been elected by the Faculty as a deputy board member of The Faculty Board for the current term.

- Anders has many years of experience in clinical and translational research, and in clinical work as physician at the University Hospital. He also has clinical supervisory experience and with the recent experience as Head of Department within the Faculty he is very well-qualified for this assignment, says dean Patrik Danielson.

- Anders will be a good addition to the leadership group and an excellent representative for the Faculty in our collaborations with our important partners in the Northern Health Care Region.

Anders Behndig starts as associate dean on November 1, 2021. His assignment will include, amongst others, responsibility for ALF related issues (ALF grants for research, the national evaluation of clinical reasearch by the Swedish Research Council etc.) and for the Faculty's role within the university health care (universitetssjukvården) and in the processes for the national high-specialty health care (NHV, nationell högspecialiserad vård).

- As associate dean I will have the opportunity to work with the clinical research and with the important collaboration between Umeå University and the four Northern Regions. Clinical research is an important aspect of the Faculty of Medicine, which requires good cooperation between the regions and the university. With my many years of experience in clinical research, I hope to contribute towards strengthening and further developing the already well-functioning operations, says Anders Behndig.
