Participate in workshops and seminars on digital learning

The Department of Chemistry together with the Faculty of Science and Technology invites teaching staff to a series of seminars and workshops with Dr Nicole Lapeyrouse, University of Central Florida, USA. The theme is digital tools in education.

As part of the development work around digitized teaching material Dr. Nicole Lapeyrouse, University of Central Florida, is invited to give knowledge, inspiration, and practical support in the work of producing recorded teaching material.

Nicole Lapeyrouse is an experienced teacher with chemistry skills and extensive experience and knowledge related to recorded teaching materials and digital aids, which makes her an excellent resource for how to concretely make high-quality digital teaching materials with relevant content.

Staff involved in teaching at all the faculty's departments are welcome to participate. No registration is required, just show up.

Seminars:

May 5, 11.30-13.00: Investigating students' STEM identity at a large Hispanic serving institution
Location: Large focus room (KBF301), KBC building
Light lunch salad will be served, limited number, so it is first come first served! You can also bring your own food or buy lunch in the KBC café.

May 8 at 14.00-15.30: Investigating student perception of unique multimedia for large enrollment courses and creating an open education resource
Location: Glasburen, KBC building
We offer biscuits, bring your own drink.

Workshops:

May 9, 15.00-1700: Unique Multimedia for Higher Education
Location: Glasburen, KBC Building

This workshop will focus on best practices for designing prerecorded lecture content for higher education courses. We will go over what needs to be done for pre-production, tools to consider for recording, types of videos, and what to anticipate during production.

May 16, 15.00-17.00: Integrating Universal Design for Learning when developing an online course
Location: Glasburen, KBC Building

During this workshop we will focus on the Universal design of Learning (UDL) framework. This framework is used to optimize teaching and for students. This workshop will go over the key principles of this framework and how to integrate them into your current and future online courses.

May 24, 10.00-11.30: Strategies on how to engage students in a Digital room
Location: Glasburen, KBC Building

This workshop will focus on using a digital classroom, Zoom, and how to engage students. We will cover key features and different ways to encourage students to become more active in their learning.

June 1, 13.30-15.00: Designing course modules and incorporating adaptive learning assessments
Location: Large focus room (KBF301), KBC Building

During this workshop we will cover best practices when designing course modules in Canvas and how to use MasteryPaths. MasteryPaths is a tool embedded into the learning management system that you can leverage to create adaptive learning pathways for students.
