Revised procedures for housing coordination

11 September 2023

UPDATED The Vice-Chancellor has approved a revision of the University's procedures for housing coordination. The revised version has been adjusted to better suit the current regulations found in the new Swedish ordinance that allows higher education institutions to rent out accommodation to international students and researchers.

Umeå University recruits international students and staff, which requires a necessity to supply accommodation to these groups to the extent possible. The procedures describe the internal process when renting out accommodation to international students, doctoral students, postdoctoral scholarship holders, visiting research fellows and employed research fellows at Umeå University.

The revised procedures have been adjusted to better suit the new ordinance (SFS 2022:1515) that regulates the possibility for higher education institutions to supply accommodation. Here are some examples of changes to the procedures:

  • The procedures clarify that Umeå University can supply accommodation for further target groups.
  • The University may use direct government funding to replace costs for letting accommodation and other letting costs. Direct government funding may not, however, be used if the costs can be covered by rental fees.
