Primula not affected by cyber attack against TietoEvry

22 January 2024

This weekend, TietoEvry was the subject of a cyber attack, which affected companies and organisations using the system Primula. Umeå University's use of Primula has, however, not been affected and the IT Office has investigated the matter over the weekend to ensure that no information or personal data has been lost.

Primula is Umeå University's system for human resources and salary administration and is stored locally in the University's own server rooms. The cyber attack against TietoEvry over the weekend has not affected Umeå University, although it did affect other customers who do not have their own server solutions.

"Many IT solutions used today are developed by large companies who are popular targets of cyber attacks. The IT solutions are also integrated and dependent on each other, which makes them vulnerable. This makes it particularly important to continue to put emphasis on IT security measures to minimise the risk of being affected in the future," says Therese Strandberg, head of the IT Office.

Over the weekend, the IT Office has investigated and ensured that no information or personal data has been lost. System logs for Primula do not indicate any suspicious activities. Primula is also blocked against external access.
