Five million SEK to mid-range equipment at the Faculty

25 April 2024

Six researchers at the Faculty of Science and Technology will share a total of 5 million SEK in funding for mid-range equipment in 2024.

Since last year, the call for mid-range equipment is only announced one a year. For this year's call, 15 applications were received. Six of the applications were approved by the Faculty Board. This time, the funds were distributed over five departments as follows:

  • Andras Gorzsas, Department of Chemistry, receives 1,140,000 SEK for Raman microscope
  • Eduardo Gracia, Department of Physics, receives 300,000 SEK for Benchtop Energy Dispersive Xray Fluorescence Spectrometer
  • Linda Sandblad, Department of Chemistry, receives 502,000 SEK for Automated plunge freezer dedicated to MicroED, cellular tomography and Cryo-EM
  • Åsa Strand, Department of Plant Physiology, receives 1,500,000 SEK for Application for C-Trap instrument
  • Lena Svensson, Department of Molecular Biology, receives 1,000,000 SEK for Upright Scanning Confocal Microscope
  • Paul Townend, Department of Computing Science, receives 580,101 SEK for Infrastructure for Smart Edge Networks (ARISEN)

Mid-range equipment is defined as equipment with a purchase price normally in the range of 250,000 to 4,000,000 SEK. Equipment purchased through this program will be placed at the disposal of other researchers at the Faculty of Science and Technology, as far as availability allows and upon request.

The decision was made at the Faculty Board meeting on 13 March.
