New system support for research data management at Umeå University

11 March 2024

Researchers at Umeå University are offered a new system support for secure storage, sharing and handling of research data. The system provided by the software company Citrix Systems is an important milestone in the investment in research data management.

In order to strengthen research and education, a major investment in research data management is underway at Umeå University. The investment, which runs until 2025, is about developing the best possible design of a coherent and secure support in the field of research data management.

New system support for researchers

Researchers at Umeå University will be offered a university-wide system support for secure storage, sharing and handling of research data. This applies to data that, according to information classification, has a high or very high protection value based on the aspect of confidentiality, for example privacy-sensitive and sensitive personal data as well as information covered by confidentiality. The system to be acquired, adapted and introduced is a so-called VDI solution (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) from the software company Citrix Systems.

The aim is to launch in 2025

The acquisition of the new system support means a big step for research data management at Umeå University, and the goal is that the first research projects will be able to start using this system at the beginning of 2025. The system will complement existing technical solutions and means that the university's researchers will receive the system support required for to handle data with a high protection value in a way that meets both legal requirements and requirements for information and IT security.
