Newly purchased computers become safer and more updated

19 January 2024

Starting from February 1, 2024, all new personal computers purchased for Umeå University will be delivered prepared for a client management system. This means that the computer will receive important settings, software and a secure routine for software updates, installations and antivirus protection at the first start.

As part of the transition to a new client management system at Umeå University, all newly purchased personal computers will be delivered with the client management system Intune from February 1, 2024. This means that the computer ordered after February 1 will automatically be more updated and secure and will be delivered with important settings, software, a routine for software updates, installations and antivirus protection.

If the buyer for some reason does not want the newly purchased computer to be client-managed, it is required that the buyer sends a case to ITS Servicedesk with the serial number that the specific computer has. ITS then makes sure to remove the client management system from the computer.

The new client management system Intune began to be introduced at Umeå University during the autumn of 2023. So far, already about 2,500 client-managed personal computers have been moved over to the new system and soon it is time for more. Client management is a method for creating a more secure and updated IT environment for all employees at Umeå University and the service is provided by ITS.
