The assignment of the four strategic councils

Structures and assignments for Umeå University's four strategic councils have now been established and are described below.

"Overall, the councils should prepare cases for decision-making by the University Director, the Vice-Chancellor or the University Board regarding core operations or supportive functions," says Daniel Andersson, academy clerk.

The Strategic Council for the Administration (RADON)

Should provide strategic support to the University Management and propose suggestions for development and improved means of coordinating the University's administrative functions in all levels of the organisation.

The Strategic Council for Research and Doctoral Education (FOSTRA)

This is an institution-wide counselling organ with the task to prepare cases and support the University Management. It should also promote knowledge-exchange between faculties and the Umeå School of Education. The council is responsible for initiating, developing and coordinating issues, including collaboration and internationalisation within the field of research and doctoral studies.

The Strategic Council for Education (USSR)

This is a council responsible for initiating, developing and coordinating issues, including collaboration and internationalisation within the field of education.

The Strategic Council for Equal Opportunities (LIV)

This is an institution-wide counselling organ with the task to prepare cases and support the University Management. It should also promote knowledge-exchange between faculties and the Umeå School of Education. The council should constitute a faculty-wide strategic support to the University Management.

Representatives from other parts of the organisation, for instance heads of office, public officials, parties interested in higher education, or other representatives from a department or unit can be called in as co-opted members to council meetings if necessary. The councils should convene at least four times per year.
