Call for applications to the Mentoring Programme for Future Faculty

The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Arts are once again accepting applications to the Mentoring Programme for early-career researchers.

Early-career researchers have limited experience and often need some guidance in the development of their research careers. Thus, the Mentoring Programme has been set up to help fulfill this need.

In the Mentoring Programme, early-career researchers are assigned a more senior researcher in the role as mentor. The mentor will support the early-career researcher by meeting with them a few times during 2022 to have informal discussions on agreed topics. Possible areas of discussion could include career planning, prioritisation between activities, and how to think with regards to mobility and networking to achieve career goals.

The programme will be limited to 15 participants. Places in the program will be awarded primarily on the basis of the applicants' motivation statement for participating in the program, but priority will be given to early-career researchers without a permanent position, from underrepresented groups and who are not more than five years from the defence of their doctoral thesis (exceptions are made for parental leave and long-term sick leave). Others, including PhD students who are scheduled to defend their thesis during the spring term of 2022, will be considered if space permits. The deadline for early-career researchers to apply to the Mentoring Programme is 15 March 2022 by email to sara.franke-wikberg@umu.se. The application should include the date of the applicants thesis defence, information about leaves of absences since the defence, and a motivation statement (not longer than an A4) that clearly explains the applicant's needs and expected goals of participation in the program.

In April 2022, an introductory meeting for mentees will be organised by the Future Faculty.
